SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Zebra mussels, an invasive species, were recently found in Iowa and have now been found in Missouri.
Media specialist for the Missouri Department of Conservation Francis Skalicky told KXCV/KRNW that this species can cause problems both environmentally and economically.
The MDC asks aquarium owners and pet stores to closely examine the moss balls in their tanks for zebra mussels.
If you find Zebra mussels in your moss balls you can freeze, boil or submerge the moss ball in bleach for 20 minutes.
